Dialogues is a curatorial project, organized by Melanie Kress, student at the Columbia University Departement of Visual Arts, and founder of POTLUCK, and Clémence de Montgolfier, student at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts d'Angers in France. Its aim is to gather French, American, and New York-based student artists to work together around collaborative or translated projects. All the projects raise questions around the issues of distance, virtuallity, communication, translation, and interpretation inherent in a bilungual, cross-continental partnership.
These collaborations will be presented, materialized, constructed, performed, documented, or reported in a special POTLUCK two-part, four-space installation and event series. The first half of this series exists as a two-week-long exhibition at Columbia University and in Angers, and the second in two art spaces, Bétonsalon in Paris and Artists Space in New York, as a video screening and informal round-table dinner discussion with the participating artists. Each visitor and participating artist are invited to contribute to this event, its installation, discussions and debates, and to join us and cook a dish for the public meals that will be held during these two events.
